DSI has successfully controlled dust from a variety of port material handling operations. One common application is Feed Hoppers for reclaiming materials from storage buildings and piles. Sometimes the material may have toxic components that can not enter the water or port storm-water drain system. Cleaning up dust generated from these operations to prevent this can be very costly and time consuming. If the dust can be contained within the material handling system, a facility can come into compliance, reduce operating cost and increase operator safety.

Dry Fog™ Systems can help contain dust generated from loaders,trucks dumping into hoppers and reclaim feeders. If the hopper is in the open, we can combine Dry Fog™ with DustTamer™ Wind Screens to reduce the effects of ambient wind and to help trap dust generated from the displacement of air from the hopper.

Controlling dust from operations at Port Facilities has become increasingly important.  Unloading facilities were often designed for production with dust control as an afterthought.  DSI has provided Dry Fog™ Systems to control dust from a variety of materials and types of handling systems.   Many of these materials are moisture sensitive like clinker and cement.  Our ability to create millions of fog droplets from a small amount of water allows Dry Fog to effectively control dust from moisture sensitive materials at ship unloading operations without creating material handling issues.

In one case a Cement Importer was going to have to shut down ship-unloading cement operations at two of its facilities in California due to non-compliance with air quality regulations.  DSI was able to work with the customer to develop a portable system to control dust from the ship hold. The technology was implemented and demonstrated to the air quality control authorities. The system met their requirements to prevent any dust from escaping the ship hold and going into the water.

Besides complying with government regulations, operators can have issues with being able to see in ship holds when dust is generated from unloading and when cave ins occur. Dry Fog can increase visibility, and contribute to safer operations by removing the float dust from the air.  Dry Fog can work on ship loading operations as well.  DSI has TWIC Certified sales engineers to better serve the Maritime Industry.

DSI has designed a variety of systems to control dust from coal, pet-coke, copper concentrate, limestone and other dusty materials when loading trucks or rail cars for overland transport.  These systems may combine Dry Fog™ with containment curtains and DustTamer™ Wind Screen systems to help control the ambient and displaced air at the load point. 

Customers report added benefits of not contaminating surrounding areas at the facility where other products may be staged in the same area.

Conveyor Transfer Points at port facilities can be a source of fugitive dust that can lead to contamination of waterways and  storm-water systems. Some material contains heavy metals that can not enter the water. Dust from materials such as coal and pet coke can increase the risk of fires and explosions. If coal or pet coke is being directed to a storage building, the facility must comply with OSHA and Fire and Safety Regulations. Dry Fog™ can help you comply with these regulations.

If the facility is using Dust Collection for coal or pet coke, Dry Fog can replace these collectors, increasing safety and lowering operating cost. Dry Fog eliminates dust explosion risk associated with dust collection systems. The explosive waste stream is eliminated as we do not collect the dust, but simply "knock down" the airborne dust at the point of creation. Therefore, we do not create a secondary waste stream that creates a high concentration of explosive dust that is typically put back onto the conveyor belt only to create more issues downstream.

Dry Fog works by injecting sub-micron water droplets into the air at the point of dust creation. The fog droplets attach to like size airborne dust particles. The slightly wetted particles agglomerate to other particles, adding sufficient mass to settle the dust back into the conveyed product within the covered transfer point. Use at ship holds, grab hoppers, screens, coal yard & plant conveyors, including reclaim, gallery, tripper conveyors and silos.
